V-Train – “Cold World”

/

A chilled-out success, “Cold World” is a new track from V-Train, the project of Vernon Jeffries. The Lansdale, Pennsylvania-based artist struts an entrancing lo-fi hip-hop aesthetic, steadily growing from faint piano flickering and murky vocal samples. The mellow glow continues throughout, especially upon the vocals’ re-integration around the mid-point. The added piano glistening at the two-minute mark adds further depth. “Cold World” consumes with a weightless, late-night allure with warming piano and brass sentiments.

Starting piano at age 9 and the drums a year later, V-Train eventually picked up guitar and bass as well. He gravitated to the lo-fi hip-hop style, and has since released two albums and three singles, with more on the way.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2022’ Spotify playlist.
