Majorette – “Old Enough to Know Better”

/

Mellow guitar twangs and playful keys complement stirring vocals throughout “Old Enough to Know Better,” a new single from Majorette, the project of Queens-based artist Danielle Salomon. The gradual expansion of autumnal acoustics and twinkling keys blends folk and twee with charming melodic strengths. The “probably I’ll have forgotten you,” line extends beautifully into an elongated vocal, the ensuing “I get lost in my memories,” line gearing into a brief lush synth accompaniment.

Added guitar twangs in the second half add gorgeously to the accessible, harmonious mix. “And I’m old enough to know better,” she sings into the twangy conclusion, the final line representative of the track’s relatable themes, particularly in misremembering memories as nicer than they were. The music video, directed by Michael Madrid (of James World), explores this concept through Salomon’s childhood figure skating passion, with the Super8 filming adding further nostalgic escapism.
