Tongg – “Smile Like A Sunbeam”

/

“Smile Like A Sunbeam” is the latest single from Tongg, a trio from Nottingham, England. Described as a song “about NOT putting on a fake face and remembering it’s ‘OK to not be OK,'” “Smile Like A Sunbeam” enamors with its fusing of playful synths, amiable vocals, and escalating guitar tones.

An inviting introduction, propelled by prickly synth pulses and a mellow rhythm section, drives into a series of melodic hooks. A multi-layered vocal effect lingers amidst a bouncier key-forward charms, culminating in a soaring guitar line that compels further. The weightless, hooky composure throughout evokes a Brit-pop nostalgia, alongside creative uses of sample-inclined vocal refrains. “Smile Like A Sunbeam” is a shimmering delight from Tongg.

The project first caught our ears last year, with the track “Popular Music.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2022’ Spotify playlist.
