rilles – “Anchor”

/

A moving debut single from Brooklyn-based artist rilles, “Anchor” enthralls with its atmospheric pop momentum and compelling vocal lead. A murky synthesizer loop caresses amidst pulsing percussion, joined thereafter by a spirited piano tone. rilles’ vocals present a calm retelling: “I watched an anchor fall into my life,” — specifically, “in the backseat of my mind.”

A multi-layered vocal elegance during the “1986” rise plays with consuming dreaminess, with a string-laden plucking in the second half adding gorgeously amidst the wordless vocal lushness. “Anchor” touts an addictive pop engrossment within a gently atmospheric pulse, succeeding in its production and replay-enticing appeal.

rilles’ debut full-length album, Satellite Bird, releases on November 18th, via Moon Loft Records.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2022’ Spotify playlist.
