Frank Rabeyrolles – “Even Space”

/

“Even Space” is a dreamy rock track from French artist Frank Rabeyrolles, whose new album Boat Songs features an array of lushly emotive ballads with atmospheric, hypnotic production. Among the release’s themes: “the fatality of an escape from the world,” and how the relationship to time can lead to “the loss of oneself.”

The gradual, eerie guitar work throughout “Even Space” casts a spell alongside the haunting vocal presence. A burst of guitar-based momentum at the two-minute turn compels with a late-night allure, as the pleading vocals — “please don’t be,” — resonates into a multi-layered harmonizing. A concluding guitar section gives some chilling Jonny Greenwood-esque appeal. “Even Space” is a riveting success from Frank Rabeyrolles.

The artist has already released music previously under the aliases Double u and Franklin.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
