Dan Spirk – “These Days”

/

Full of grooving intrigue, “These Days” is a recent track from Dan Spirk. The New York-based artist conjures a stylish vein of rock with hints of funk and jazz, recalling a bit of the ’70s and ’80s NYC art-rock scene lived in by acts like Television.

“These Days” traverses from escalating vocals, expressing a desire to “reach out,” alongside intensifying rhythmic murkiness; the contrast between swampy darkness and more seductive rock vocal stylings make for a consuming flair throughout. “I wanna reach out, but I’m so high,” the vocals let out during the more rock-forward enamoring, evolving seamlessly into the intoxicating “these days,” refrain.

“I fall into depression when I’m not writing or performing music, this song is based off that,” Spirk says. “Fighting off the dragon thats in your way, that happens to be inside of you.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
