Canadian producer The Dolls Are Good crafts a dynamic, evolving electronic soundscape on the track “126,” melding nostalgic elements of jungle, drum-and-bass, and pop. A diverse range of percussion, from sparse patience to brisk energy, complement resonating synth-driven melodies within nostalgic production components (like the sound of cassette hissing, a remnant of the 4-track tape recording).

A murky drum-and-bass envelopment stars initially, driving quickly into a mixture of lush keys and sporadic buzzing synth. The percussion kicks into further gear thereafter. Spacey keys and these dynamic rhythms intermingle with consuming results at the track’s mid-point, as halted vocal effects build to a conclusion that epitomizes the track’s sharply atmospheric production. “126” stimulates with both lush engrossment and infectious rhythmic appeal, resulting in a standout production from The Dolls Are Good.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
