Ajay Mathur – “Common Mistake”

/

Another highlight from Ajay Mathur‘s recent album Talking Loud, “Common Mistake” struts suave guitar work and nostalgic organs, driving into a rollicking and playful hook. Written by Mathur and Mary Lou von Wyl, “Common Mistake” contemplates the present worldwide psyche with accessible yet astute lyrical engrossment.

Questions persist throughout the lyrics, symbolic of the anxieties propelled by a consumer-obsessed world. “Do you fill yourself with fear of all the things you cannot buy? There’s someone whispering in your ear, about the things that make you high?” the opening lyrics convey. The eventual acknowledgement — “oh no, making the common mistake, because you’re caught up in the race,” — speaks further to the chaotic rat race of life, and the pressure to succeed while avoiding any mistakes whatsoever. “Common Mistake” is another reason to check out this album from the Grammy nominated singer/songwriter.
