Hoovy – “idk what idk”

/

Described as “a song born out of losing control,” “idk what idk” is a darkly captivating effort from Hoovy. With its initial guitar progression exuding an alt-rock nostalgia in its reminiscence to Radiohead’s “Just,” the track traverses an ultimately darker path with its wordless vocal touches and nocturnal synth-laden trickles.

The vocal uptick past the first minute arises alongside these synth pushes, with a plucky climactic spell arriving into the two-minute turn, when whirring percussive stomps and guitar/synth interplay envelop further. “idk what idk” is abundant with darkly invigorating nostalgia and atmosphere.

“It explores the themes of anxiety, fear of death, and sarcastically points out that if we think we can do something that we can – like thinking all the ways we could die away,” the artist explains. “The dark lyrics and powerful sound only stand to contrast what we all know: ignorance is bliss.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
