poor york – “Little Spoon”

/

“Little Spoon” is the standout debut single from poor york, a band from NYC. They describe the effort as “partly a love letter to the city that spawned several rock scenes,” ranging from The Velvet Underground to early ’00s indie rock mainstays.

Jangly guitars converge with contemplative vocals, expressing “I’ll be your little spoon if you’ll be mine,” into the pulsing rock expansion. “Take your time,” they continue alongside percussive expansion and vibrant guitars. Playful keys and suave guitars intermingle in the final minute as the vocals fade, re-emerging in the finale with the debonair title-referencing refrain. “Little Spoon” packs a memorable punch, showing a no-frills rock nostalgia that’s fitting for the city it takes inspiration from.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
