Slow Cruise – “Gone”

//

A gorgeous and dreamy production about “a lost conversation between a son and his father,” “Gone” is the latest single from Slow Cruise, the project of artist and multi-instrumentalist Dennis Dine, originally from London and now based in Sweden. Gentle acoustical ruminations and warm synth buzzing complement Dine’s soothing vocals, lamenting “one minute you’re here then you disappear / wish you could see how I’ve grown through the years.”

The ensuing twinkling keys and ascending vocals builds into the cathartically beautiful chorus: “Now I open my eyes to see, I will be what you couldn’t be.” There’s a sense of mourning and loss within the lyrics, although set against a hopeful glistening in the instrumentation and accompanying vocals, embracing an ability to learn from past misfortunes. “Gone” is another stunner from Slow Cruise, first catching our ears with “You’ve Got Me” last year.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
