Tim Barr – “September”

/

Consuming last year with the jangly single “No More Fathers,” New York-based artist Tim Barr conjures a more nostalgic, understated power-pop pull with the single “September.”

Its hooky and expressive sound reminiscent of a darker Matthew Sweet, “September” drives from late-night observations into the “I will wait for you alone,” declaration. A multi-vocal culmination around 01:30 leads into a resonating vocal outpouring thereafter, reminiscent of Cass McCombs. “September” impresses in both its brighter, hook-minded moments and initial yearning. “September” marks another success from the former NYC firefighter, who is now pursuing music full time.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
