The captivating tracks “Six Feet Under” and “On the Road” preview the upcoming full-length from Form and Fate, featuring vocals from Orion Lake. Form and Fate return after a 12-year hiatus, now infusing the lushly compelling vocals from Orion Lake into their textured, contemplative rock sound.
“Six Feet Under” rolls climactically from a bass-y synth and dreamy guitar trickling, casting a spacey enthrallment as various vocal layers — from the serene lead to the robotic reflection — add further to the soundscape. A lingering guitar tone stirs as a heavier rock-forward steadiness unveils past the first minute, expanding delicately before traversing into more dreamy ruminations. The track is a confident showcase of how fruitful this vocal-added collaboration sounds.
The similarly consuming “On the Road” also infuses spacey synths and climactic guitars, unraveling with a darker and more rock-minded sound, with shades of Wolf Alice. The nocturnal alt-rock angst proves firmly memorable in the halted vocal momentum and chugging guitar infusions. These two efforts have me firmly anticipating the upcoming album, out later this month.
