Dan Rico – “Maybe I’m Scared”

/

A colorful pop fusion lingers throughout “Maybe I’m Scared,” a compelling new single from Brooklyn-based songwriter, musician, and producer Dan Rico. Elements of psych-pop, R&B, reggae, and jazz exude playfully. The effort is described as “about making yourself open to the things that scare you in life in order to transform their outcome.”

Nostalgic organs and title-touting refrain mesh with smooth guitars for a compelling sound, exuding a celebration of freedom (“no plans for the weekend”) while also saluting an openness to trying something new. “Maybe I’m Scared” meshes a tropical, contemplative vibe alongside more thunderous rock hints, like the swell from the 01:20 guitar distortion into mellow pop delights. “Maybe I’m Scared” is a hooky success with enjoyably eclectic charisma. Look for an accompanying video to drop before Halloween!

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
