Golem Dance Cult – “Ghost of Las Vegas”

/

Traverse a gripping soundscape with specters alongside on “Ghost of Las Vegas,” a track from Golem Dance Cult. The duo from Belgrave, Australia audibly capture the feeling of isolation, particularly when surrounded by other people — conjuring a ghost-like comparison in the ability to wander through the world with a seeming disconnect. The track now includes an accompanying video, directed by Klaus Karloff. Within, the duo’s transparent silhouettes wander across a variety of settings.

A brooding bass line complements steady percussion, driving into an eerie vocal presence — concocting an industrial-forward post-punk aesthetical appeal. Grimy guitar distortion complements lyrics referring to haunting hotels and a restless feeling. The vocals retain a subdued, chilling character throughout, bolstered by hazy guitar distortion and a creepy “we are the ghosts,” final procession. “Ghost of Las Vegas” is a stylish, darkly enveloping success from Golem Dance Cult, fit for the autumnal season.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
