Ripsime – ‘Capsule I: Wicked & Wise’ EP

From the dreamy pop immersion of “Daemons” to the funky late-night soul of “Wicked & Wise,” the Capsule I: Wicked & Wise EP presents a ravishing pop sound with a strongly eclectic, atmospheric hold. British-Armenian artist Ripsime caught our ears with EP opener “Benevolent Prince” in April, and the whole release lives up to that lofty showcase, captivating with a consistently stylish mystique. The artist’s debut impresses with its artful pop approach, spanning from the string-laden cinematic yearning of closer “Angels” to the title track’s additive suaveness.

“I party with the wicked and wise,” Ripsime sings on the catching title track, where funky guitar licks and nocturnal synth tones weave inward. It’s an apt line, as the release very much feels like the soundtrack accompanying a secret dance club, open between the hours of 2AM and 5AM. “In Clouds” furthers that sentiment, with its woozy vocals, hypnotic rhythms, and hazy keys combining for a melting atmospheric allure. Ripsime thoroughly impresses throughout the intoxicating Capsule I: Wicked & Wise EP.

“Benevolent Prince” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
