Selett – “Marionette”

/

NYC-based artist Selett conjures a haunting introspection on recent single “Marionette.” A dreamy, escalating quality intrigues throughout. “I find it so hard to be your pet,” the subdued vocals admit early on. “Maybe I just don’t have it in me to be your marionette.” The ensuing, rising confessional — “I am shattered,” — stirs alongside the warming bass and jangling guitars. That refrain builds with powerful impact as a soaring guitar line lingers into the final minute, wrapping up a powerful, emotive success from Selett.

“I wrote this song on the toilet out of the exasperation of what I feel different ideologies can drum up by the way of evils,” the artist explains. “I believe in love and not martyrdom. The puppeteering of people is something I’ve always found mind boggling. I was very pained writing this. I’m not an activist and have no interest in speaking on that as I write from a solemn place. This song is authentic to that kind of self expression.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
