Benny Fisher – “Lovers Rock”

/

Presenting a woozily nostalgic charm, “Lovers Rock” is a warming, melodic success from Benny Fisher, a British artist based in Bologna, Italy. “It’s about a young couple with amorous feelings who do not have a place of their own,” Fisher says of the single. “Maybe they still live with their parents, there’s no room or privacy, so they go to lover’s rock.” Fisher’s DIY ethos shows strongly, with the artist contributing flutes, glockenspiel, and synths alongside his expressive vocals and range of psychedelic guitars.

Fisher’s soothing vocals and equally lulling acoustics drive into a serene flute accompaniment, with guitar buzzing signaling a slight uptick — marked by the appeal to “take my hand, to lovers rock.” Glockenspiel emerges cohesively thereafter alongside wordless vocal harmonizing, while spacey synth injections enamor as well in the second half. “Lovers Rock” appeals strongly with its timeless, accessible warmth, representing a standout showing from Benny Fisher.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.
