Bill Speakman & Memory Stitches – “Blink”

/

Lonesome guitar twangs and glistening synth expanses alike compel on the flourishing “Blink,” a dreamy pop single that comes via the collaboration of Bill Speakman and the duo Memory Stitches. Speakman, whose solo material spans from mood trip-hop to hooky psychedelia, is also a member of the trio Second Sky.

Moody guitar twangs and contemplative vocals quickly ascend to a glistening “wake up,” expanse, with chiming bells and calming vocal reflections sending chills. The steady contrast between post-punk guitar murkiness and ensuing effervescence makes for a ceaselessly climactic spell, reminiscent of Alvvays, with the two-minute turn enamoring especially as the multiple vocal layers and twinkling instrumentation melds for a replay-inducing pull.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Pop.
