aeonatan – “Dominion”

/

Stirring with its dream-pop and shoegaze inclinations, “Dominion” represents the second single from aeonatan, the project of Finnish musician/producer Jonatan Stenfors. They describe the track as portraying “a nihilistic perspective on reality using escapism as a means to cope with it. Have I escaped the ‘simulation’ or am I just insane?”

Glistening guitars accompany lyrics describing a trap within a maze; the contemplative allure and atmospheric guitar lines combine for a stellar opening, with the momentum continuing thereafter. Heavy, shoegaze-friendly guitar pulses embrace past the one-minute turn, intoxicating with their gauzy glow. A soaring, multi-layered vocal — “I lost my mind,” — compels further thereafter. “Dominion” consumes in its meshing of dreamy guitars, rises in warming distortion, and lyrical introspection of a world that “keeps spinning into oblivion.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
