TROUT01 – ‘EP1’

A creatively contemplative pop enamoring intrigues throughout EP1, a recent release from Montreal-based artist TROUT01. The solo project of producer and engineer Sebastien Perry balances lushly impactful hooks with atmospheric pop soundscapes, from the woozy daze of “HM&D” to the twinkling bounciness within “I Used To Want To Be Someone.” The latter is especially indicative of TROUT01’s impressive production chops, bridging serenely melodic vocal layers with aspirational lyrical engrossment and catching piano/synth interplay.

“Moment In Light” opens the EP with stellar engagement, weaving acoustic guitars and playful percussion alongside pitch-altered vocal effects. The lead vocals appear with crisp clarity — “see so clearly,” — and add well to the electro-folk aesthetical charm. “I Could Be Fierce” succeeds in another spectrum, meshing a dreamy pop allure with its effervescent keys gliding alongside alt-rock guitar flashes. Whether in the form of quainter folk-touched efforts or bubbly, bright pop, EP1 succeeds as a thorough success from TROUT01.

“I Used To Want To Be Someone” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
