Benton Crane – “LDFS”

/

A woozily psychedelic intrigue envelops throughout “LDFS,” a new single from Benton Crane, an artist based in Boulder, CO. “With LDFS I really tried to lean into a psychedelic rock vibe,” Crane explains. “The different layers make a great song to lay down and listen to with headphones on and your eyes closed.” 2021 debut album Welcome to Paradise was an impressive showcase in psych-friendly songwriting, and Crane appears poised for a big 2024 ahead — with “LDFS” representing the second release of a year-long series of monthly singles from the artist.

Glimmering, spacey synth intrigue develops with compelling mystique. A bass-y resonance complements trickling synth fragments, like falling snow in a valley. The vocals emit an anesthetic mantra — “light, dream, fade, sleep,” — as the steady glistening and warming rhythmic pulses retain their hypnotic glow, into a spacious vocal emphasis that approaches the two-minute turn with climactic allure. “You take my breath away,” the haunting vocals let out, arriving into murky guitar currents that evolve into a heady, satisfying second half. “LDFS” is a lushly absorbing success from Benton Crane.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
