RPKprincess – “chemical”

/

A soaring, hypnotic pop success from New York-based producer RPKprincess, “chemical” enthralls with its dazed immersion. Hazy guitar strums, spacey synths, and steady vocal captivation assemble a replay-inducing appeal, aesthetically conjuring a sort of Yoshimi-era psych-pop nostalgia. “Too late to be saved, it’s only chemical,” the concise vocal suaveness emits during the memorable chorus, uplifted further by the starry-eyed synth tones.

The crunchy guitar tones adorn with alluring effect during the verses, building cohesively into the gorgeous spaciousness within the chorus. An eerier vocal disposition takes hold as the three-minute turn approaches, adding a right touch of tonal variety in the search of “paradise,” before the central hook’s reprisal. “chemical” is an infectious success from RPKprincess, the project of Bella Flowers, who explains: “My two-year sobriety inspires my work. This song mirrors the false euphoria of drugs, using delay to create an atmosphere of artificial bliss. I play each part and write lyrics with effects already added so my ideas become enmeshed with the sound.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
