Antony Welford – “Friendly Fire”

/

Melding atmospheric synths and melodic guitar work, “Friendly Fire” is the latest single from UK-based artist Antony Welford. The track’s music video, above, also represents a continuation of Welford’s fascination with AI tools in the context of video creation, also displayed on previously featured single “The Precipice.”

Swelling synths lend an eerie intrigue into wavering guitar tones, emitting a nostalgic psych-rock daze as the vocals muse that “everything is clear now,” even as the “world outside is fading.” A bursting array of guitars drive into a darker synth-laden sequence, where Welford emits “you’re my friendly fire,” with captivating, melodic fervency. The percussion builds into a riveting “burning next to you,” hook, propelled by warming guitar distortion and Welford’s steady vocal immersion. “Friendly Fire” is a memorable showing from Antony Welford.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
