Friend of a Friend – “nothingforme”

/

Chicago-based duo Friend of a Friend enthrall with melodic momentum across folk and rock intertwining, seamlessly intriguing on new single “nothingforme.” Claire Molek and Jason Savsani formed the project in 2020, and released their debut album In Arms in May 2022 — touring across Europe and North America since then. “nothingforme” comes via their newly released sophomore album, FACILITIES, recorded in Joshua Tree with Jordan Lawlor (M83, J. Laser).

“Tell me, are you free?” the debonair vocals inquire to start. Mellow guitar pulses and sporadic bass build alongside for a steady momentum, as the vocals ascend into a ghostly, wordless chilliness. Swelling synths approach the two-minute turn, as does a gripping array of bustling percussive additions. A dreamy vocal embrace shows as the rhythms fade and a mesmerizing acoustic-forward spell takes hold amidst haunting vocals. “nothingforme” is a ravishing, climactic listening experience from Friend of a Friend.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
