Fondly reminiscent of The Wrens in its moody ascent into gorgeous guitar lines, “Louisiana Purchase” is a captivating new single from Dress Warm. The bedroom-pop trio is based in Austin, Texas, and comprises members from the band Hall Johnson.
They describe the track as “a song about selling yourself to someone for very little without much in return because in the short term, it may seem beneficial. Much like the French sold the Louisiana territory to United States for such a low price in 1803. Although possibly a bit dramatic, the comparison draws from experiences in failed relationships, both romantic and platonic.”
Warm guitar jangles and a hazy, contemplative vocal presence traverse with hypnotic impact throughout the first minute. “Would you just let it go?” the vocals ask into a slight expanse of guitar layers, falling back down into a comforting dose of warmness around the two-minute mark — matched by lyrical depictions of coping with snow, and change in general following things not panning out how initially anticipated. A rousing uptick in emotive guitar work caps off this memorable success from Dress Warm.
