An intoxicating house-driven sound appeals throughout NUMBERS, the debut EP from NOCOLOUR, a duo comprising German producer Marcus Voss and Cuban-born Will Hernandez. The long-time friends unveil a gripping sound within — drawing from their eclectic musical backgrounds. With a strong background in Techno, Tech House, and Drum & Bass, Marcus complemented Will’s foundation in salsa, Latin grooves, and organic house, sparking a truly original musical blend.
Commencing the EP, “Number One” hypnotizes in its pulsing synths and distant-sounding vocal intrigue. “When I need it!” a soulful vocal sample emergences, adding a vibrant nostalgia to the sturdy electronic backbone. A more galloping percussive force takes hold in the final minute, balancing enjoyably amidst the various vocal layers and steady synth pulsations. “Number Two” continues the impressive sound, embracing a more dreamier synth arsenal that builds climactically into a buzzing effervescence by mid-point, while the marimba-feeling tones emanate an Afro House inspiration.
Elsewhere, “Number Three” infuses soaring vocal dynamics for a grooving, organic immersion — fit for exploration into the unknown, brimming with beauty and mystery. A piano-laden drop at the two-minute mark is particularly impactful. EP finale “Number Four” is a satiating send-off, mixing bellowing vocal aspects with a more concise infectiousness as consistent house-friendly synth ruminations develop. All four tracks on the NUMBERS EP succeed in their stylish, accomplished visions.
