Impressing across both heavy rock vigor and dreamier soundscapes, Climax is the instrumental rock album from Italian guitarist Luigi Chiappini, performing as Decadent Heroes. The project layers technical precision with cinematic arrangements, shifting seamlessly from gritty prog-rock riffs to lush textures. The release also features performances by Dennis Holt (Kansas, Taylor Swift), Pino Saracini (Eros Ramazzotti) and Rich Gray (Annihilator).
A commanding album opener, “The Dragon” melds sturdy distortion, soaring guitar lines, and shimmering synth tones, The project’s dynamic prog-rock allure is quickly on display, showing an ability to seamlessly cross between both scorching guitar solos and more patiently building atmospheric craftwork. The ensuing “Dawn of Fire” delights in embracing the hard-rocking spectrum fully, its invigorating interplay of steady rhythmic pulses and expressive lead guitar. Tracks like “Dawn of Fire” and “Hype” succeed with a sound that’s delectably gritty and feverish in its fervent rock disposition.
Elsewhere, a standout like “Before the Hype” consumes with a more beautifully understated character. Jangly guitars and hypnotic synth ambience combine for an absorbing dream-pop feeling. “Here Comes the Rain” is stellar as well, finding a lovely middle ground between excitable rock and emotively subdued charm. Prancing piano illumination and charismatic guitar work stir in their combined power. “Save Me Tomorrow” then arrives with extra gusto, conjuring an anthemic rock spiritedness. Full of impressive musicianship and rewarding song expanses, Climax is a memorable full-length from Decadent Heroes.
