Representing the second single from Yellow House‘s upcoming album Gateways & Trains, “Bound & Covered” is a delectable blend of soul, dream-pop, and funk — complemented by lyrical depictions emitting “an intoxicated concoction of desire.”
A spacious, memorable soundscape unveils quickly. Click-clacking rhythms and warming keys drive into an emotive vocal presence, exuding a sense of adoration: “Overflowing with the thought of drinking in the air where you walk.” The ensuing chorus, proclaiming “oh, my lover / ain’t no other,” delights in its heightened vocal emotion and bass-y injection, channeling a touch of funky pop within the pre-existing R&B and dream-pop shades. “Gonna love you until you crumble,” the vocals continue to dazzle, gradually bolstered by additions of guitar. “Bound & Covered” is a thorough success from the South Africa-based project.
