Carlos Grassot – ‘Alegría’

Carlos Grassot‘s new EP Alegría explores his Spanish heritage through a lively fusion of folk, Latin, and house music, balancing dancefloor momentum with his singer-songwriter instincts. Originally from Palamós, Grassot relocated to the UK at 21, with London and Liverpool shaping a genre-crossing sound that reflects both nightlife culture and deeply personal songwriting.

A glistening, spacey array of synths opens the EP as “La Fiesta” gets underway, quickly bolstered by playfully tropical rhythms and soaring, wordless vocal elements. The rhythms fade momentarily before re-emerging with artful precision at the one-minute turn, progressing into arpeggiated synth work and a nostalgic electric guitar solo, all while the vibrant vocal lines, house-ready synths, and steady rhythms continue to shine. Ensuing track “Mírame” channels a more bass-heavy energy from the get-go, evolving with a brisk, deep vocal tone and sporadic siren-like ambience. Flourishing brass tones inject lovably thereafter, adding a world music tint to the house/electronic qualities.

Speaking of brass, “Sale Tarde” launches into motion with triumphant doses of it, continuing throughout amidst grooving bass and celebratory harmonies. “Why don’t you dance with freedom?” the lead voice asks, strutting a soulfully invigorating quality in its “dance with me all night long” carpe-diem allure; it’s a brief yet danceable standout. Elsewhere, album finale “Pensando En Ti” echoes a more folk-ready charm, melding acoustic guitars and an introspective delivery within a melodically affecting production. Latin House project Alegría is a compelling success of an EP from Carlos Grassot.
