FRENCH INHALER – “HAUNT YOU”

Chicago-based trio FRENCH INHALER blend moody post-punk rhythms, shimmering electronics, and melodic new-wave hooks on “HAUNT YOU,” a single from their album PRACTICED LINES, which we previously featured here. Paired with a striking monochromatic video featuring Chicago performer Charles Joseph Smith, the track balances shadowy atmosphere with infectious momentum and hypnotic movement.

A simmering synth wavers enjoyably as the track gets underway, quickly complemented by a perky percussive allure. Post-punk bass bustling and pit-pattering rhythms soon follow, while the synths channel an emotive ascent as Ashvin Prakash’s memorable lead presence emerges. “And there’s a light in your attic, goes out tonight, there’s a hole in your that grows inside,” his delivery resonates, driving into a ghostly “it will haunt you” central hook, where the spacey synth tones meld beautifully with the post-punk rhythms. In the music video, the magnetic dance movements from Charles Joseph Smith hypnotize, set within an aptly monochromatic style.

Immersing across both its bass-rumbling post-punk precision and synth-y moody prowess, “HAUNT YOU” is a thorough delight from FRENCH INHALER, whose album PRACTICED LINES also caught our ears earlier this year. They continue to captivate with an artful blend of post-punk, synth-pop, and new-wave, on “HAUNT YOU” complemented by a stellar music video. We continue to anticipate whatever’s next from the talented project.
