An absorbing shoegaze-forward track, “you can count on me” comes via Modern Leisure, the project of Denver-based songwriter and DJ Casey Banker, who describes the release as “about being completely enamored with someone and finding something powerful in simply being there for them.”
Tender guitar twangs and mellotron flutes open the track with balmy appeal, as the vocals float along with a dreamy entrancement. “And I fell into a dream, when you would speak to me,” they let out, with twinkling keys and resonant vocals leading to an expanse of guitars, embracing that whirring, shoegaze-y edge there. Delighting across both twinkling contemplations and heavier rock textures, “you can count on me” is a fantastic track from Modern Leisure.
