June Always – “Mary Jane”

Another memorable track from June Always, after impressing with “Ghosts,” “Mary Jane” compels in its jangling guitar pulses, twinkling keys, and vulnerable lyricism. “I can’t compete with Mary Jane,” the vocals open, with piano and guitar jangling bolstering ruminations on the “perfect woman,” personified here as addiction. “She’s the perfect woman, I see why, Mary Jane,” the chorus emits, lamenting “you don’t kiss me like you used to.” A heartfelt, poetic success shows on this delightful track, described by June Always as “exploring its toll on a relationship and the painful resignation that sometimes you just can’t win.”
