Vinyl Floor – ‘Balancing Act’

Copenhagen-based brothers Thomas Charlie Pedersen and Daniel Pedersen have spent nearly two decades refining Vinyl Floor‘s melodic rock approach, with their sixth album, Balancing Act, expanding its reach through symphonic flourishes, alternative-rock passion, and progressive arrangements. Recorded at Studio Möllan in Malmö, the February 2026 release also features contributions from guest string and wind instrumentalists, adding further color to the duo’s songwriting.

Album opener “All This and More” quickly showcases the project’s knack for dynamically melodic progressions, here shifting between an opening title-bearing vocal power-pop resonance and grungier rock vigor. Lovely vocal layers emerge with artfully placed resonance throughout, with the hazy guitar jangling and vocal presence resembling a cross between Wild Nothing and XTC. Ensuing track “I’m on the Upside” struts a heavier rock ardor, magnetic in its initial twangs and follow-up of crunchy guitar riffs and stirring vocals. “I’m on the upside, baby will I ever land?” a hooky presence emerges, conjuring a sort of throwback Blur Brit-pop vibe there, enjoyably.

“Land of the Desert” is another standout. Blissful guitar trickling propels with mellow entrancement initially, complemented by warming guitar twangs and “in the land of the desert” scene-setting lyricism. Heartrending strings intertwine seamlessly with the lush guitar work, producing an elegant and affecting chamber-folk sound. The seven-minute “Jacaranda Blossoms” enthralls as well, moving from twinkling piano-led momentum to pulsing electronics, tender guitar impacts, and a symphonic edge, before driving into a fantastic psych-rock guitar solo in the second half. Vinyl Floor’s Balancing Act is an album abundant in fantastic songwriting from Vinyl Floor.
