Via Champagne Atlantis‘ stellar new album Hudson Valley Hidden Gems, “Recommended Product” is a further showcase of Jesse Barki’s memorable songwriting. The project first caught our ears in 2020, with the catchy single “Crybaby,” and now with this release shows an enthralling balance of dreamy pop hooks and psych-rock affections.
Highlights are abound, from more rock-forward efforts like “Recommended Product” to electronic-minded psych-pop gems, such as the excellent “Supercharged Electrical Brainwaves.” “Recommended Product” stands out with its immediacy and energy. Seductive guitar twangs and shifty percussion combine with mellow keys for a scorching yet hypnotic introduction. Additional guitar layers gradually swell into the hooky “never shall I dream again,” vocal rise, repeating throughout with replay-inducing pleasures.
Per the band: “Stemming from the frustration of targeted ads and algorithmic learning, this song encompasses the retaliation of feeling constantly watched, leaving social media and technology altogether.”
