Ernest Green (Washed Out) treated listeners to one of the year’s most enjoyable electronic albums in Within and Without (review). This new track, “Call It Out”, comes from the upcoming single for one of the album’s highlights “Amor Fati”, to be released on November 7th. One of the Soundcloud commenters is spot-on with initial The Knife comparisons. While warbly arp-synths are customary for Greene, it is employed here over static synth whispers that bring a bit of italo-disco to the table. The comparison is especially prominent right before the one-minute mark, when dance-ready percussion pushes forward. A slight fade-out, some shrill string-like adjustments, and a minimalist ending… just another success from Washed Out.

Washed out, and specifically Call It Off
are producing music that will be looked back on as some of the best music of this century.
I’ve heard this song maybe 100 times and it never gets boring.
It’s so rare, this type of sound and the emotion it brings.
I’m very appreciative of these masters of their craft.
