Video: Arcade Fire – “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)”

Arcade Fire released the music video for “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)”, in both a traditional version (above) and interactive form. The latter can be found here; viewers can enable their webcams, and control the movement of the images in the video with their own movements. Both are directed by Vincent Morisset, considered by many to be the “godfather” of interactive music videos. You may know him recently from his directorial work on Sigur Rós’ live release, Inni.

The traditional form of “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)” features the members of Arcade Fire with oversized paper-mâché heads, prancing and dancing. The only one without decorative head-wear is Régine Chassagne, who dances by herself – excitedly and adorably – around various suburban landscapes. Best of luck to other bands trying to capture bizarro suburbia. This video is simply executed but hard to beat, especially considering it features one of the best songs on The Suburbs.
