The Land Below – “And On”

The emotionally lush “And On” recalls the most subdued efforts from The Weeknd, James Blake, and Junior Boys — all at various points, with the icy-cold synth arps reminding of the latter and Erik Lindestad’s gentle vocals being akin to both Blake and The Weeknd in graceful delivery. Based out of Malmö, Sweden, Lindestad shows off a very powerful sound here that’s both atmospherically beautiful and lyrically touching. With the track’s topic being sorrow and loss, Lindestad elaborated on the track’s general direction: “I tried to strip my sound and make do with as little as possible instead of drowning everything like I usually do. That said, there’s still a lot happening in the mix I guess. But like everything else, it’s a process, being naked is not always as easy as it should be.”

“And On” is the title track from the It’s All Figured Out EP, released on Swedish label Hybris Recordings (who also hosts the similarly lush Postiljonen). Following last year’s release of his debut album, this EP continues with dreamy layers of analog synths and whisper-y vocals.
