NINTH CHILD – “Say What You Mean”

say-what-you-mean

NINTH CHILD’s atmospherically rich new track “Say What You Mean” places listeners in a purple haze, with whooshing nocturnal synths, varying vocal pitches, and tropical tinges assembling a lush and enticing soundscape. The vocal pitch alternation, hauntingly effective especially just prior to the two-minute mark with the child-like hypnotism, is wonderfully produced — as are little touches, like the Sally Shapiro-esque whispers around 01:10. NINTH CHILD is the production alias of LA-based Natalia Benson, also known under her former DJ alias WHITEHORSE. Her vocal approach reminds of Jessy Lanza, and specifically the ability to alternate between lush nonchalance of pitch-distorted infectious bliss. Her otherworldy vocal and songwriting presence should result in sustained success.
