John McCabe – “Too Late”

/

Crunchy guitars lend an immediately nostalgic, alternative-rock vibe on John McCabe’s new track “Too Late”, released as part of his Flower Circle EP and recorded, mixed, and produced by John Kimbrough in Los Angeles. The “too late now, and I’m wide awake” hook brings some brightness to the murky guitar distortion. Following that, the excellent “everyone’s staring down / must be real important” dual-layered vocal approach works excellently, serving up a fluid melodic hook within the muscle-y tone. Here, McCabe crafts an excellent fusion of power-pop and alternative. He manages to successfully juggle a hook-friendly melodic format with a distortion-heavy approach that fondly reminds of ’90s alternative.
