Chase Potter – “Over”

/

Brooklyn-based artist Chase Potter impresses mightily with new track “Over,” featuring a twangy and confident sound that reminds me of Cass McCombs. Potter is a multi-instrumentalist whose music tends to resonate with fans of indie-rock, power-pop, and experimental, capturing a distinctive sound that never forgets the importance of accessibility. “Over” haunts with a relatively nocturnal soundscape in the verses, where Potter’s vocals assume an enjoyable nonchalance — complemented by gorgeous moments like the “and then it’s over,” twang at 50 seconds in. The primary hook, whose melody kicks off the track and re-emerges two minutes in, soars with a more effervescent allure. “Over’ is a thoroughly captivating effort from Potter.

“Over” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the best-of Spotify compilation Best Tracks of 2018.
