Michael Bruner – “Don’t Mean Broken”

/

Passionate vocals and vibrant acoustical trickles begin “Don’t Mean Broken” with intriguing appeal. A drum fill and bass entry emerge around the 50-second mark to add a fun, dub-like feel to the track. Good vibes are abound from the get-go, touting a trickling acoustic-pop sound fit for bright days. The lyrical sentiments – about finding strength from within – resounds nicely, especially as the wordless backing vocals add an ardent touch in the second half, in addition to the captivating, exotic woodwinds that emerge in the bridge. This is a nice showing from Michael Bruner, a musician, songwriter, producer, and visual artist based in Bloomington, Indiana.

“When I lost contact with a dear friend, I wrote this song as a message to her, in the hope that she would find strength from within,” Bruner says. “”Don’t Mean Broken” speaks to those who may lose direction in the co-dependence of others. It was brought to light as a collaborative effort between me and independent record label Instru Dash Mental in the summer of 2018.”

“Don’t Mean Broken” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2019’ Spotify playlist.
