Mikhail Galkin – “A Loaded Mind”

/

Showing the artist’s melodic dream-pop, folk, and psych leanings, “A Loaded Mind” is a single off Mikhail Galkin’s upcoming Fanta EP. The artist, who previously impressed with tracks like “Waiting in the Wings,” succeeds with hypnotic, exotic allure here. Quaint mellow key-driven contemplation evolves steadily into an infectious groove with calming psych-pop appeal. The song is about the gentrification of many neighborhoods around Toronto, and is musically influenced by Galkin’s recent trip to Turkey and much of the psychedelic music that came out of there during the early ’70s (Baris Manco, Mogollar, Selda Bagcan, etc). Galkin’s reflections on changing neighborhoods are complemented by exotic melodic mystique and always-interesting production.

“A Loaded Mind” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2019’ Spotify playlist.
