Space Lungs – “You Should Never Take Rides From Strangers”

/

Brimming with enjoyable melodic and stylistic variation, “You Should Never Take Rides From Strangers” is an enjoyable journey of a track from Space Lungs. A one-man bedroom project, Space Lungs notes that the song is based on the Tarantino film Death Proof. “You Should Never Take Rides From Strangers” touches on everything from psych-rock, ’80s stadium-friendly glam, and electronic-pop. M83 is a relevant point of comparison, in their audible love for ’80s tones alongside soaring guitars and an anthemic vocal feel. Several moments soar with melodic delight, like at 01:23 — when an orchestral-friendly stirring complements the vibrant guitars. The climactic synth/guitar interplay that follows is also captivating. The final minute finds the symphonic synths/keys and guitars combining for a memorable conclusion that is very much reminiscent of M83.

“You Should Never Take Rides From Strangers” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2019’ Spotify playlist.
