Astral Brain – “Five Thousand Miles”

“Five Thousand Miles” is a dreamy, hypnotic gem from Astral Brain. The Stockholm-based project formed in 2015, when Einar Ekström (previously of Le Futur Pompiste) and Siri Af Burén (Testbild!, Band In Box, Vit Päls) joined forces. Siri’s vocal and lyric additions proved a perfect fit for Einar’s accumulating instrumental pieces. In April, the project released its first two tracks in “From Above” and “The Field Trip.”

“Five Thousand Miles” begins with a lulling, enchanting quality that’s perked up by percussion just after the one-minute mark. Here, glistening guitars and escalating rhythms converge with vocals that retain dreamy qualities despite a slight increase in intensity. The jangly guitar tones past the two-minute mark add nicely to this track’s gripping yet serene soundscape. Astral Brain continue to have a very strong introductory year.

“Five Thousand Miles” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Shoegaze / Post-Punk / Dream-Pop.
