The Lylacs – “Imitation of Love”

/

The Lylacs thoroughly impress with their new EP, A New Age. A dreamy rock sound encompasses much of the release, with only “Echo Valley” veering into distorted alt-rock, for a nice change of pace. Opener “Imitation of Love” traverses on perky guitars and suave vocals to start. Rhythm guitars add a nice warmness past the one-minute mark, as the vocals assume a melodic glow. The gliding guitars continue to build throughout, nicely reminiscent of the band TOPS. “Imitation of Love” retains a sense of lushness while still conveying a briskly melodic pull, serving as a great opener. Another EP highlight is “Prayer,” which expands upon spacious synth pads with a sweeping, majestic vocal presence. It would sound at home at the Roadhouse on Twin Peaks. Both “Imitation of Love” and “Prayer” excel in showcasing The Lylacs’ strong atmospheric and melodic senses.
