midori jaeger – “Upon Your Ear”

/

Reminiscent of later-era Talk Talk’s jazz-laden expansion, “Upon Your Ear” is a stirring success from cellist and singer midori jaeger. A jazzy bass line is accompanied by suave vocals and sporadic doses of piano. The keys add a warming, atmospheric quality as the one-minute mark approaches and the vocals escalate in emotion. The track’s final minute is a particularly fine showcase of the artist’s ability to weave melodic vocals within a soaring aesthetic that blends folk, pop, and jazz with seamless cohesion.

“Upon Your Ear” is via midori jaeger’s forthcoming 4-track EP look at us, out on 2/28. Born in Tokyo and raised in London, the artist released her debut single in November 2019, and looks to have a big 2020 ahead.

“Upon Your Ear” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Funk/Soul/R&B.
