Premiere: Waterfall Strainer – “My Friend”

/

Written and recorded in a Brooklyn apartment, “My Friend” is described by Waterfall Strainer as “a song about getting out of your head and enjoying the people around you.” Nick Stola’s songwriting succeeds with an accessible though creative flair. Twangy guitars nicely complement an understated vocal presence, with a driving bass line throughout the verses. Synths assume more prominence alongside the guitars during the chorus, which casts a serenely engaging pull. The synth addition at 02:35 is notably melodic, leading seamlessly back into the jangly guitars and relaxed vocals. “My Friend” is a pleasure to premiere.

“My Friend” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
