sweater boy – “Boys”

/

Touting a melodic jangle-pop vibe alongside vocal yearning, “Boys” is a very pleasing introduction to sweater boy. The project’s debut single rides initially on a bass-fronted suaveness, with guitars and retrospective vocals — “I can’t wait for you,” — emerging steadily. The guitar tones tout a swirling, jangly feel reminiscent of power-pop in the vein of Teenage Fanclub. “Boys” is the type of track that’s difficult not to enjoy.

“This song was a result of a stream of consciousness,” the Nashville-based artist explains. “I was driving to go hangout with my crush at the time, and they bailed on me so they could hangout with somebody else instead (who they ended up dating). I was sad & upset about that, so I went back home and wrote this song instead. I wrote it about 1 and a half years ago; it’s the song that started ‘sweater boy.'”

“Boys” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
