Growing Pains – “Orange Sunshine”

/

“Orange Sunshine” is an initially hazy rocker from Growing Pains, based in Portland, Oregon. By its second half, a flurry of anthemic, spirited guitars join with wordless vocal passion for an invigorating, cathartic feeling. Blasts of distortion converge with frantic percussion as the three-minute mark approaches, unleashing a bevy of energy. Just as it rose, the track closes steadily, in a tranquil haze more fit for contemplative post-rock feels, structurally reminiscent of Sigur Rós. “Orange Sunshine” develops with enjoyable vigor from contemplative rock into a blistering vein of excitable psych-friendly joy, never quite letting go.

“Orange Sunshine” comes from Growing Pains’ new album, Heaven Spots.

“Orange Sunshine” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
